Spotlight On : Tory Burch

"I love the understated glamour of subtle shine and a hint of sequins" - Tory Burch
As my new twitter friend (well when I say my new twitter friend I mean I am now following her, she still doesn't know I exist) I felt it only necessary to spotlight her on this fabulous Friday. Always love everything she comes out with (her gold embellishments especially make me really happy) and I appreciate the way she appeals to the fashion forward and accomplished professional, just as she is. On this gloomy and rainy afternoon, I thought what better way to cheer myself up than to buy a new pair of shades. Clearly ill be needing them soon as the forecast predicts rain for the next few weeks, but they cheered me up indeed and I am very happy about my purchase. Id also like to give a shout out to the lovely lady at Nordstrom who knows me by name and goes to the nth degree to provide exemplary service.
A huge reason why I bought them, totally forget her name though :-\
Check out the Tory Burch website to see her Spring 2010 preview and if you had a bad week, treat yourself to a little TGIF shopping delight!

BFF Friday!

Lindsey, Lindsey, Lindsey....As I sit here and try to explain why This BFF Friday is dedicated to my amazing friend Lindsey Macfee no words suffice. I met her through her sister Justine a few years back when I lived and worked with her in Lake Tahoe. I moved in with her family the summer after I came home from studying abroad in Italy and after we hung out once, it was clear that it was just the beginning of a long lasting friendship. There is no doubt that we always have a unexplainable amount of fun when we are together. Of course, I say that about all my friends and the level of fun only rises when all the BFF's are together, although the friendship that Lindsey and I have formed in a short span of 3 years is one that I hold very close to my heart!
 (Insert awwwww's here)
From Mexico to Vegas, San Francisco, Oregon, Tahoe, LA and beyond Lindsey and I could write a book about our hilarious experiences, encounters and well, bad decisions, which are known to make for great stories. One encounter that comes to mind is when we arrived at Lauren Conrad & Audrina's house warming party only to be bombarded by the MTV camera's, Brody Jenner's juicer and Justin Bobby's motorcycle. We looked at each other, laughed and swiftly excused ourselves from the raging bash! (ha)
Lindsey's confidence, intelligence, wicked style and passion for life are just a few of the reasons that make her such a inspiring person to me. Being my junior (she just celebrated her 22nd Birthday this past Tuesday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINDS!) I look up to her in many ways and only hope we share many more life experiences together in the future!
Cheers To You!
Keep reading to get to know Lindsey a little better...
This or That with L-Mac
Fantasy or Reality?
Fantastic reality! Live in the now, dream big for the future!
Mashed Potatoes or French Fries?
Kombucha….. just kidding I’m not that annoying, french fries!…. But I do drink a Kombucha everyday.
Sofa or Loveseat?
Oooooh loveseat.
Necktie or Bow-Tie?
Although it is less material, a bow tie is SO much more.
Pilot or Passenger?
Private passenger…. And Justine will fly.
Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus?
Siiiigh….. I guess Miley because I do party in the U.S.A.
Pulp or No Pulp?
Glass of OJ: pulp.
Mimosa: no pulp.
Town or City?
San Francisco.
Super Hero or Super Villain?
Super hero! Good will prevail! Positivity will change the world!
Shaken or Stirred?
I don’t drink martinis, but any shot I order is chilled, so shaken I suppose.
Sun or Stars?
“I got a date with the niiiiight!” –yeah yeah yeahs
Collar: Popped or Regular?
Popped on a flannel… the only collared shirts I really wear. But if I see anyone with a bright or pastel colored shirt on and that shit is popped……. No soup for you.
Clothes or Accessories?
Clothes AND a shit load of accessories.
Shower or Bath?
Shower. Baths are… dirty.
Ping-Pong or Pool?
I’m a bit too spazzy to have any bit of control with that tiny ping-pong paddle, so pool… a few drinks and some feigned confidence usually does the trick. I’ll kill it for a while, but it usually only takes a couple missed shots for my opponent to realize I’m full of shit.
Silver or Gold?
Both… together! My mom always taught me to mix metals, despite the fashion rules, which I tend to completely disregard as I currently wear black skinnies with tan leather moccasins and a red Ralph Lauren flannel of my boyfriend’s. I don’t like rules.

Get Your Zoe On!

Everyone loves to hate Rachel Zoe. Yes she says idiotic-ly hilarious things in her valley girl twang like,"Brad, your bow-tie is banana's" and "I lit-er-ally die for these tranny heel's" but let's face it, her clients are consistently on the Red Carpet's "Best Dressed Lists" and in weeklies & fashion blogs, where they pick apart her clients outfits telling everyone else where to get their fabulous threads. By landing her own reality show, The Rachel Zoe Project, Zoe has now become just as popular as the clients she dresses. I mean, how many girls dressed in fur vests, huge sunnies, curled hair, dark washed trouser jeans & Venti Starbuck's filled with their favorite spirit or beer did you see this Halloween? Let's just say she's made it. A few years back, I purchased her book "Rachel A to Zoe" and have taken many tip's from the Style Book, although recently I have signed up to be on her "Zoe Report" which is a daily newsletter "adding a little glamor in your inbox" in the AM. The other day I noticed she posted her list of 20 wardrobe essentials. Funny part about this is that lately I have been in the process of coming up with my own version of wardrobe essentials a la gigi to give my clients so when we are initially going through their closets it can lead us in the right direction. As RZ has just said, she doesn't believe in anything "basic" therefore coming up with her "Basically Fabulous List". Bitch. She totally stole my thunder. Now when I post my "Wardrobe Staples a la gigi"  Everyones just going to think I am copying Rachel Zoe's ideas. Welp, I guess great minds think alike :) Get your Zoe on and check out here site, www.RachelZoe.Com and if you do indeed want some glamor in your inbox, don't forget to sign up for her Daily Zoe Report.
 Its Bananas
Ps. Stay tuned for, "Wardrobe Staples, a la gigi"

SOLD OUT!

As a follow up to my Heartforward post, here are some photos from Camaron's Album Release party! The Red Devil Lounge was completely sold out, the crowd was rockin' and the PBR tall can's were flowin'! I had a great time and was so excited to see my first musician client rock out in an outfit I pulled for her!
Justine & I getting ready for the event...No i am not giving her the bird, sure looks like it though.
Don't forget to check out her website http://www.camaronochs.com/ to purchase her new album, Heartforward!

BFF Friday!

This is my friend Ruthie. I met her in Lake Tahoe, where I lived and worked for a few summers. Famous for her cheetah print onesie bathing suit and matching beach towel(*editors note, its tiger not cheetah), you can find Ruth hanging out on the pier at Tahoe Park Beach with a PBR in hand, or by the Juke-Box at Pete & Peter's in Tahoe City rocking out to the best of Tina Turner. I saw her on the wall at the Apple store the other day when I went in to get a new battery for my MacBook. I called her to ask why she was indeed in a life sized poster on the wall of my local Mac store riding her cruiser bike. She nonchalantly said, "Oh yah, I did some modeling for them once" No big deal...Just another day at the Lake. A lover of the outdoors, Ruth is a rad skier, loves biking, hiking, water-sports, you name it she'll try it. One time I met up with Ruth and her boyfriend JT Holmes at a bar in Squaw Valley. We all had a drink together then Ruth and JT decide to head home at a early 12:00 at night. Her reasoning for having to leave? "Gotta get up early to go jump outta' planes tomorrow"...Another NBD moment, and that is why Ruth Selby you are awesome. Recently Ruth has started a blog called Ruthie Writes, a blog about her passion for cooking. After getting her Masters, Ruth has recently decided to head back to school, but this time at the Culinary Institute of America in the beautiful St. Helena California. I am so excited to go visit her and frolic through the Napa Valley Vineyards & eat all the delish food she learns to cook!
Q & A With Ruth Selby:
Q: Best/Worst thing you have ever cooked?
A: The best thing I have ever cooked...? I don't know. I am never really 100% satisfied with the things I make, like I am always tweaking and thinking about next time and how I can make them better, because I don't think I am that good at cooking yet. French Onion Soup. Made some at home a month or so ago, using rich beef stock from beef bones at Soupa. It was one of the few times i've ever really nailed something ;-)
Worst thing I ever cooked is a tie:
1. This tomato sauce in which I used dried, ground thyme and oregano instead of fresh herbs. The amounts are way different when you used dried stuff because the herbs are so much more potent. It was not edible.
2. When my brother and I were younger, we tried to bake oatmeal raisin cookies. We added everything but the oatmeal. Somehow, the cookies came out tasting like fish oil. My dad loves telling that story.

Q: Most Thrilling thing you have ever done?
A: It's a cliché but I have to say skydiving and BASE jumping.  I have 92 skydives and 7 BASE jumps, and there is no feeling like jumping out of a plane or jumping off a bridge, no feeling like freefall. I haven't done too much jumping recently, but I would like to get back out there. I miss it!

Q: Snow Ski or Water Ski?
A: BOTH! Just depends on the time of year! I love them both. I suck at waterskiing (like it's not always a sure thing that I'll get up!) but I started to go more last summer and I love it.

Q: My Favorite article of clothing/accessory in my closet is:
A: Clothing: An oversized cashmere cardigan sweater I stole from my dad. It's so warm and comfy but still looks really good with leggings and boots. Accessory: My grandmother's engagement ring. I wear it on a chain as a necklace; it's got this old-school classic setting that makes it way cooler than other, bigger diamonds.

Q: Id never date a guy who didn't:
A: Like my cooking! ;-) But seriously, I couldn't date a guy who didn't love the outdoors as much as I do. If you're going to watch TV or play video games all day, it would never work.

Q: My ritual to help calm my nerves is:
A: Brushing my teeth. Don't know why, but with a fresh and clean mouth I feel like I can do anything.

Q: My idea of comfort food is:
A: Mac and cheese and biscuits!

Q: Favorite Restaurant in Lake Tahoe is:
A: Fiamma for food, Sunnyside for location.

Q: My Guilty Pleasure would have to be:
A: Facebooking. I'll find myself looking at pictures of people I barely remember or hardly know, it's midnight, my eyes are bleary and my back hurts and yet I still want to know how your vacation in Costa Rica was or your semester abroad. It's such a time-drain but I am addicted!

Q: Times you have fallen off your cruiser bike after 2AM :
A: I'm so glad you should mention this: NEVER. When I face-planted off my cruiser, in front of cops, hard into the asphalt, and shattered my jaw, it was only 1 a.m.

Q: High Heels or Miller High Life?
A: High Heels without a doubt.

Q: Blog’s I follow are:
A: Yours! Soooooo Gigi. I always love reading yours. And I'm so jealous of your blog skills, like you are way better than I am at incorporating photographs and visual stuff. My friend Lis writes a blog called -----smith (like blank-smith) because she's a word-smith, a blacksmith, etc. Ok she's not a blacksmith but she makes stuff and her blog always highlights something cultural and cool around Tahoe that I would otherwise miss.

Q: Most memorable day/night/adventure you had living in Lake Tahoe?
A: Really? I cannot narrow it down... can I just list some?
This past New Year's Eve: by memorable, I mean I don't remember all of it, but it sure was a blast. Boating back from South Lake in the dark after a long night of partying. Every five minutes we thought we were home, when really we had pulled into Rubicon Bay thinking it just HAD to be Tahoe Tavern. Mtn Biking and Camping the Downieville Downhill. I am not good at Mtn biking but that trip got me more into it and camping is always awesome. It's not a big deal to others skiers, but my first season in Tahoe I skied Main Chute three times in one day. We just kept hiking for the exercise and Main was the only thing I'd try. It made me feel like I was pushing myself, and I think it's good to scare yourself a little. Riding cruiser bikes to the top of Barker Pass, up Blackwood Canyon. No gears and no brakes on the way down, our chains and rear tires were smoking by the time we got down.

Thanks for picking me for BFF Friday's! Your persistence in writing inspires me and makes me realize I need to write more on my blog too!
Big Squeeze,
Ruthie

Whats Up.

The raddest French Bull Dog Puppy alive...She has a bow behind her, she has a diamond chain, she's black & white and she's really just my dream dog. I would like to name her Miss Piggy.

Flea Market Finds!

A few months ago, Justine and I spent our Sunday at the Alameda Point Antiques and Collectibles Faire. This flea market is like no other than I have ever been to and worth the $5.00 it costs to enter! I think i'd even have to say it even comes in first before the Portobello Market in London..I know I know,  it's a long shot but i'm goin' for it! Anyways, a newbie to this market, just ask Justine...I was ooing and aahhing at every booth we passed, and much to her delight, stopping at every booth ;)
A perfect way to spend a lazy Sunday, looking over the beautiful city of San Francisco rummaging through amazing antiques, jewels, fur's, furniture ( I'm definitely furnishing my next apt. with finds from there). I had to stop myself from going overboard and buying too much stuff. Justine stopped me from getting this rad sword that I wanted to gift to someone for Christmas, she said something about it being "dangerous" for me to walk around with it...pfff. Although I did come home with a beautiful new Russian crystal champagne glass to add to my collection, an antique crystal lighter, a sweet necklace that I gave my friend Lindsey for Christmas which was adored with a gun and a charm that said "Ace".  It's pretty fitting, if you knew her you would understand. I also got this antique pocket watch, key and brass stamped G, to make a charm necklace out of! The fair only happens the FIRST SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH so make sure next month you don't miss it! It's definitely a gem of a find by the bay if you ask me!

Coachella Ella Ella...

A virgin to the festival in the fields of Indio, I am SO excited that I have decided to pop my Coachella Cherry this year! After seeing the lineup and collaboration of artists, I literally gasped in excitement. Not too Hipster, not too Hip-Hop (to be honest i'd say I am more of an old school Hip-Hop lover myself (Thanks to Mags!) but that's OK). Naturally with all this Coachella talk, I can't help but get amped to put together some "serious outfits" as my good friend Justine would say, and buy some new festival threads! Lucky me that I live in the most amazing area to Vintage Shop, Haight St. BEWARE we're comin' for ya!

♥ Heartforward ♫ ♪

The best part about loving what you do for a living is that you never feel like you are working! I just got back from a quick trip to Urban Outfitters to meet Camaron Ochs and sister Jillian to pick out a rockin' outfit for her album release party this Saturday. Jillian contacted me after seeing my blog and asked if I would like to help Camaron for this event. I happily accepted the offer as I had become a fan of Camaron's music via Facebook a few months prior and loved all the songs off her debut album, Heartforward. After setting up the dressing room with about 10 different outfits, the girls showed up and Camaron put on a little fashion show for us as we sipped Kombucha's (I really should provide my clients with a bubbly glass of Veuve, maybe next time!).  A few of the outfits were no-no's, lot's yes-yes's... especially my fav, the one when she was channeling her inner Lady GaGa! (Im kicking myself for not taking photos, but the employee's @ Urban don't like photography in dressing room's, sigh)
After a bit of deliberating, Camaron chose the red high-waisted skirt that I paired with a chiffon studded tank. It is a very cute, venue appropriate outfit that will only add a nice flair to her natural beauty!
Stay tuned for pictures of the outfit and the event, but in the meantime check out her website http://www.camaronochs.com/
If you are in or around the San Francisco Bay Area and want to come to the show, you can purchase a ticket for Saturday night off her website and receive a FREE copy of the album, Heartforward upon entry of the Red Devil Lounge! Thats a deal if I ever heard one!

Pass this flyer along to 5 people....Or else you will have bad fashion karma for 1 year! (haha!)
And..Check out my favorite tracks:

CUPCAKES FOR A CAUSE

This past summer I had the amazing opportunity to work with Faith Wheeler, a dear friend and President & CEO of Faith Wheeler & Co. a Marketing and PR firm based out of San Francisco. Candace Nelson, Founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes is one of Faith's clients, therefore I had the chance to meet & work along side her on a few projects. As sweet as the cupcakes she bakes, Candace and husband Charles are as passionate about baking as they are about their commitment to supporting worthy causes.
Today, January 16th Sprinkles is donating 100% of the proceeds from their Red Cross Red Velvet cupcakes to the American Red Cross to benefit the Haiti Relief Fund.
Satisfy your Sweet Tooth today and for once don't feel too guilty about it!

He was a SK8tR boy

I've always had a thing for skater boys. I don't know what it is...
But this LV deck makes me want to become a skater girl myself.
How F'n Rad-a-tad is this? Keep blowing my mind Louis,
I love you.

BFF Friday!

Patricia Field & all things Sex And The City
I don't know HOW I am just seeing this trailer now, but Sex And The City 2 looks like it will be even more Fabulous than the first. I know some critics did not enjoy SATC 1, and to you I say, you do not exist to me...
Patricia Field, the genius behind Carrie Bradshaw's incomparable style is truly my idol. I look up to the wacky ways she pairs Bradshaw's Manolo's with  flea market find's & gold gangster chains and the impeccable way she dresses Charlotte in her Oscar de la Renta sun dresses, pins her bow's and chooses the perfect paisley to create the uber femme.
SO if you have been under the same ROCK as it seems that I have been, here is the SATC 2 trailer. Feast your eyes on these stylish ladies!

First Stop, London Town

After 1 book, 2 inflight movies, 3 awful airplane meals, 4 trashy mag's and 5 hours of sleep cuddled in my cashmere scarf & "do not disturb signs" aka eye mask & ear phones, we finally arrived in the United Kingdom. We touched down at Heathrow Airport to a winter wonderland. Snow was falling which is rare for London and I was thanking god I had just bought a new wool coat because it was a bitter 20 degrees! My dad and I were greeted by my cousins Manal & Rami and they drove us over the apartment we were renting which was located in Butlers Wharf (the financial area). Butlers Wharf, located on the South bank of the Thames River is just downstream of Tower Bridge. It was built in the 19th century and previously was a warehouse complex and shipping wharf. It had once contained the largest tea warehouse in the world, although since the 80's, Butlers Wharf has been transformed into luxury flats with shops and restaurants on the ground floors. I was really excited to visit a new part of London that in previous trips I had not discovered before.
Amazing View of the Tower Bridge From Our Balcony
Dad in the Kitchen
We only had a one full day in London before we were heading to Cairo so we woke early, got all bundled up and headed out to walk around. We walked through Soho on Carnaby Street, up and down Bond St. admiring all the amazing flagship designer stores and we lingered in Harrods for hours to get out of the cold! We also found our way over to the Big Ben,TOPSHOP (my fav!) The School of Art & The London Eye.
Later that night I met up with Manal, Rami and Amir again to say my goodbyes and for dinner at Nando's, another one of my London fav's! I was happy to say id see them again soon, as I would be back to London for another week after Egypt.
New Vintage Steez
Check out the new sunnies my cousin Magdi so kindly gifted me!
Dad and I met up with Magdi for Tea and he surprised me with these Christian Dior Vintage Shades seen here on Miss Rihanna.
They are Fabulous if I do say so myself! Thank you Mags + Tamer!
{If you didn't see the BFF Friday post on Magdi and his business endeavors, check it out here}
