He goes by the name of....Lupe Fiasco

As I have mentioned before, my cousin Magdi {featured in a BFF Friday here} is lucky enough to call Lupe Fiasco a friend. Not only did Lupe visit Magdi's sneaker shop every time he was in London & give him a shout out during the intro of his record, Lupe also wear's Magdi's clothing line Crossover during his concerts and around town. A few years ago when Magdi was visiting the US, Lupe Fiasco just so happened to be performing at the Fillmore in SF. Magdi took us to see his show and as I had not been a fan of Lupe's before {solely because I was not familiar with him as an artist} I did not know what to expect. By the time the show was over I had developed an extreme love and respect for all his music, there was something different about him as an artist that I was really drawn to. We sat upstairs in the vip area and after the show we met Lupe, who could not have been more down to earth and proved to be just as intelligent and compassionate as the lyrics in all his tracks. I saw Lupe again when he opened for Kanye West & then at the 1st. Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco. "Lu" who was raised muslim on the west side of Chicago prides himself on not using cuss words or degrading lyrics in his songs and has gained the respect of rappers like Jay Z. He remains one of my favorite artists for his sure-fire beats & positive messages. TONIGHT, I am so excited to see him perform with B.o.B at the Warfield in SF :)
